Lightning Rumors: 3 Free Agents to Target This Summer

Welcome to NHL Trade Rumors' 2024 Free-Agent Targets series. During it, we will be discussing three pending unrestricted free agents that each team should aim to sign.

In this latest edition of the series, we will take a look at the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Tomas Tatar: After a down season, Tomas Tatar is not expected to command too much money in free agency this summer. When noting that he has had plenty of success in the past, he could be a bounce-back candidate worth considering for Tampa Bay. On a cheap one-year deal, he could work in their middle six.

Martin Jones: The Lightning should look to add another cheap goalie this summer. Jonas Johansson struggled as their backup, so a veteran like Martin Jones could make sense for Tampa. He worked well as the Toronto Maple Leafs’ third-string goalie this year and would be an upgrade over Johansson as Tampa's backup.

Liam O’Brien: The Lightning need to free up cap space to re-sign Steven Stamkos, and Tanner Jeannot has come up as a prime trade candidate. If the Lightning move Jeannot, they will lose a lot of grit and toughness. As a result, a tough guy like Liam O’Brien could grab their attention. He is expected to make at or just over the league minimum on his next deal.
