Maple Leafs Rumors: Mario Ferraro No Longer On Team's Radar

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been connected to San Jose Sharks defenseman since the 2023-24 season. This carried over to the beginning stages of the offseason, but it appears that the Maple Leafs' interest in the left-shot defenseman has gone away.

According to The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta, the Maple Leafs no longer have Ferraro on their radar. Instead, they are aiming to add big defensemen who play a heavy game.

The Maple Leafs were one of Ferraro's top suitors this campaign, so it is certainly intriguing to hear that they are now out of the sweepstakes. However, with free agency offering some hard-hitting defensemen, it also makes sense that the Maple Leafs will be focusing on the market.

Some players who the Maple Leafs are expected to look at on July 1 if they hit the free agent market include Nikita Zadorov, Chris Tanev, and Brandon Montour.

While the Maple Leafs are no longer in the mix for Ferraro, he is still generating plenty of interest around the NHL. Some clubs who have been connected to him this summer include the Carolina Hurricanes, Winnipeg Jets, Boston Bruins, and Calgary Flames.

We will now need to wait and see which defensemen the Maple Leafs bring in this summer and where Ferraro ends up.
