NHL Rumors: Trade Buzz Increasing on Flames' Andrew Mangiapane

The Calgary Flames seemingly have their hands full this summer dealing with their Jacob Markstrom situation. The disgruntled goalie is almost certainly headed out of town, and that will be a huge piece of business. But that doesn't mean the Flames aren't taking and making other trade calls.

According to insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, teams are calling about Andrew Mangiapane, who will be entering the final season of his 3-year, $5.8 million AAV contract. He secured that nice deal after his breakout season in 2022 in which he doubled his scoring output from any other season, lighting the lamp 35 times. He hasn't been quite able to duplicate success to that same rate before or since, with 18 goals being his next-highest total.

This past year, Mangiapane found the net 14 times to go with 26 assists for 40 points along with a +7 rating in 16 minutes of ice time per night. His speed and playmaking stand out and he'd be a solid fit in any team's middle-six.

Interestingly, the New Jersey Devils, who are the frontrunner in the Markstrom sweepstakes, are also in the market to add a winger, making it a possibility that Mangiapane could wind up as part of that deal.

If there's one thing Flames GM Craig Conroy has shown in his brief time on the job, it's that he has not been shy about trading players on expiring contracts for assets.
