NHL Rumors: Trevor Zegras Spotted Getting Chummy With Canadiens Head Coach

Well, this should add some fuel to the already burning fire of the Trevor Zegras trade rumors involving the Montreal Canadiens.

Quebec radio host Jerome Landry reports that Zegras and Habs head coach Martin St. Louis were seen looking more than friendly at a New York gym this week.

According to Landry, on FM 93 radio:

They saw each other in the gym, they chatted, then they left together. I don’t know if they went to eat, but Martin St-Louis and Trevor Zegras left the gym together, arm in arm, ‘chummy-chummy.'

Interesting, indeed. The Habs have been rumored to be interested in Zegras since the trade deadline back in March, as the former Calder Trophy runner-up was struggling through his third NHL season.

The Ducks ultimately decided to hang on to the 23-year-old, who played just 31 games due to injury this season, and registered just six goals and 15 points. That was after coming off back-to-back 23-goal, 60+ point seasons to begin his career.

Many feel that Zegras could be in need of a fresh start in a new situation, and that the Canadiens would be happy to provide it for him. He'd be able to join his good buddy Cole Caufield on the Habs, perhaps even reuniting on a line as the two have done many times in the past in international play, including this spring at the World Championships.

One thing to keep in mind about the Zegras/St. Louis meetup is that both do frequent that New York gym, as both have deep connections with the area: Zegras is from nearby Bedford, NY while St. Louis spent his last two seasons as a player in the NHL with the NY Rangers. So maybe it was just coincidence that they 'bumped into each other'... Or maybe not.
