NHL Trade Rumors: Sabres & Hurricanes Discussing Blockbuster Trade
The Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres have been linked to a blockbuster trade that would see pending restricted free agent Martin Necas end up in Buffalo.
Cont'd: "..if not, I think Carolina is ready to keep him, they're not going to force a deal if no one is willing to answer that price. I will say this, I think the Buffalo Sabres could be that team, they're among the teams bidding hard on Necas, they have a lot of interest"

Pierre LeBrun of TSN recently mentioned he could see the Sabres moving on from their first-round pick, 11th overall to land Necas. As LeBrun points out as well, if the Hurricanes don't see a team, like the Sabres, pony up for Necas, they are happy to keep him and move on to a new extension.
Necas, 25, scored 24 goals and 53 points in 77 games last season and another nine points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He's coming off a contract where he earned $3 million AAV the past two seasons.
Carolina has $23.8 million in projected cap space to work with this summer and have a number of contracts to complete including Seth Jarvis, potentially Necas and they are holding out hope Jake Guentzel wants to return, although with free agency creeping closer, the Guentzel sweepstakes aren't looking so promising for the 'Canes.
