Oilers Interested In Adding Avalanche Free Agent Sean Walker

The Edmonton Oilers came so close to winning the Stanley Cup, but now there is a lot of work to do in such a short time for them. With the draft and free agency almost here, there are decisions to be made about how to improve and win it all next season.

One upgrade is likely to come on the right side of the defense and the Oilers have been reportedly keeping tabs on Sean Walker, per David Pagnotta. The Colorado Avalanche picked him up from the Philadelphia Flyers at the trade deadline and he served as their third pairing RD, but can play higher than that.

If the Oilers are eyeing him, it means that he could slide into a top-four role next season if signed. We got a glimpse of some of the Oilers' future plans when they made Cody Ceci a healthy scratch and put him on the third pairing in favor of Philip Broberg.

Ceci will likely be traded to free up some much-needed cap space, but another RD in Vincent Desharnais is expected to test free agency after he was made a healthy scratch for a good chunk of the Oilers' playoff run.

While Broberg proved he can play in the top-4 and on his off side, adding another option for the second pairing to play alongside Darnell Nurse is not a bad idea whatsoever. The Oilers were rumored to be interested in Walker ahead of the deadline, but made no significant changes to their back-end. That will change this offseason.
