Senators Rumors: Ottawa interested in trading for Ducks' Trevor Zegras
The Anaheim Ducks are getting calls on Trevor Zegras this summer and one team who are reportedly interested, the Ottawa Senators.
The Fourth Period reports that the Senators are one of four teams who have reached out to the Ducks on the Zegras asking price. The 23-year-old, former ninth overall pick is coming off an injury-plagued inconsistent season and it appears the Ducks are willing to move on for the right return.
Zegras finished last season with 15 points in 31 games and has two seasons left on his current contract at $5.75 million per season. He does not own any trade protection.
The Ducks haven't been shy moving on from some of their core players and GM Pat Verbeek is not afraid of bold moves. Besides Zegras, John Gibson is reportedly on the trade block as well this summer.
Zegras continues to try and get away from being known as a one-dimensional player who can be a loose cannon sometimes. It may take a change of scenery for the young forward to change the narrative on his game. Besides the Senators, the likes of the Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators and Montreal Canadiens are looking for more offense this offseason.
I’d also make a call to Anaheim. With the right players around him and coaching staff, Trevor Zegras, could develop and add much needed depth as a third line center and on the power play. Still young and can make plays. #NYR
