Stars Trade Former First-Round Pick Dellandrea To Sharks

The Dallas Stars and San Jose Sharks have completed a trade. This sends Ty Dellandrea to the Sharks in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.

This is a necessary move for the Stars as Dellandrea just didn't get much playing time with the Stanley Cup contender and the team didn't have the room or time to give him the opportunity he needs to reach his full potential.

Playing on a rebuilding team like the Sharks should be great for a young forward like Dellandrea. He showed positive signs last season when he scored nine goals and 28 points in 82 games at 22 years old, but sunk to just 42 games, two goals, nine points, and a -10 rating on a good Stars team.

Dellandrea only got into six playoff games this year for Dallas, further pushing the trade was the right move. When he did play, it was limited minutes.

The Sharks are still going to be rebuilding and have a very young core. Dellandrea will have a lot of room to grow as he is a former 13th overall pick in 2018. He will be 24 by the time next season starts and the Sharks have a number of free agents this offseason. It makes more sense that they are taking chances on skilled younger players instead of filling their roster with veterans.
