Utah Actively Looking To Add Top Pair Defenseman

Defense is the weakest area of Utah and the team only has two defenseman signed. While there are four more RFAs to take care of, Utah is reportedly making some noise and actively shopping for a top pair defenseman, per David Pagnotta. The team has a ton of money to spend and are once again looking to get better and compete for a playoff spot.

The Arizona Coyotes (formerly) had a strong start to the 2023-24 season before dropping down the standings. They had a lot of young and less experienced pieces and have rebuilt long enough. Now that the team is in Utah, they want to win and will do what is necessary to accomplish that.

There are not only some good defensemen that can suit the needs of Utah on the free agent market, but defensemen around the league that are likely available to acquire via trade. This team will be able to outbid most to try and sway the free agents to come to Utah.

Sean Durzi and JJ Moser are the team's top two defensemen, but realistically they could both be on the second pairing. Unless one or both of them break out, Utah needs upgrades on the back-end. A rebuilding team would give a lot of young players opportunities, but a team trying to win has to add experience and proven ability. While a top pair defenseman is on their radar, they may add even more.
