Utah Completes Back-To-Back Major Trades & Picks Up Marino From Devils

Utah wasn't done after acquiring Mikhail Sergachev as the team immediately went and traded for John Marino from the New Jersey Devils in exchange for the 49th pick in the 2024 draft as well to bolster the right side.

Utah is serious about competing next season as they have now added a top pairing on defense. Marino is well known for his strong defensive play and he is a right shot, something that is not all that easy to find in a top-four d-man.

It was discussed that the Devils were going to look to trade Marino as they had their sights set on Brett Pesce in free agency in just a couple of days. Marino also has the ability to put up points and he will play a lot in Utah. He has three years left on his deal at $4.4 million AAV.

Sean Durzi should be pushed down to a more comfortable spot on the second pairing behind Marino. This trade makes Utah even more competitive and shows they are not waiting around to win in their new city.
