Winnipeg Jets Re-Sign Dylan DeMelo

One of the top potential free agents from this year's class will officially not be hitting the market. The Winnipeg Jets have announced that they have re-signed Dylan DeMelo to a four-year contract extension with an AAV of $4.9 million.

It was known that there was mutual interest in the Jets and DeMelo keeping their relationship going, and now that has come to fruition. With this move, DeMelo will continue to be a very important part of the Jets' blueline as they look to cement themselves as legitimate contenders.

Keeping DeMelo around truly was a no-brainer for the Jets. He has been such a key part of their blueline for quite some time, and he is coming off an excellent 2023-24 season. In 82 games on the year, the right-shot defender posted three goals, 31 points, and a plus-46 rating.

Overall, when noting that DeMelo was one of the top defensemen who could hit the market, the Jets got him for a pretty reasonable price. This is especially true with DeMelo playing top-pairing minutes and being a key part of their penalty kill.

We will need to wait and see how DeMelo responds to signing this great deal through his play from here.
