3 Potential Free-Agent Destinations for Matt Martin
Veteran forward Matt Martin is still a free agent at this juncture of the offseason. Teams looking for more toughness on their fourth line could consider bringing him in, so let’s discuss three potential landing spots for the gritty winger.
New York Islanders: The possibility of Martin returning to the Islanders should not be ignored. There is no question that the organization heavily respects him, as he has played 13 out of his 15 NHL seasons with the club. Thus, it would not be too surprising if they brought him back on a cheap one-year deal for more forward depth.
Ottawa Senators: The Ottawa Senators could use a bit more toughness in their bottom six, so a player like Martin could grab their attention. He would give them another veteran to work with and could work be a solid depth player to add because of it. On a cheap one-year deal or even a PTO, it could make sense for the Sens.
Columbus Blue Jackets: The Columbus Blue Jackets will likely look to add more forward depth to their roster before the start of the season. With the Blue Jackets being a young club, perhaps adding a tough guy to protect their rising stars could be something that intrigues them.
