3 Proposed Trade Destinations for Jets Prospect Rutger McGroarty

Rutger McGroarty and the Winnipeg Jets have had a falling out, and the highly-regarded forward prospect has asked for a trade. The Jets seem willing to oblige, as there has been a "difference of opinion" of some sort between the club and the 20-year-old.

Rumors have been rampant, and we've talked here about a possible connection with the Boston Bruins and also the Philadelphia Flyers as a potential landing spot.

Sportsnet analyst Ryan Dixon has given it plenty of thought, and has postulated on what he feels are three more great trade fits for the Jets and McGroarty.

Montreal Canadiens

There were some conversations between the Habs and the Jets around the Draft, but adding a forward of McGroarty's prospect status became less urgent for Montreal after they nabbed Ivan Demidov with the 5th pick. Nevertheless, the Habs do have an excess of young defenseman, as Dixon notes, and could stand to move one or two to Winnipeg to bring in another forward with a bright future.

Minnesota Wild

Again, a team that was in talks with Winnipeg around Draft time. According to The Athletic's Michael Russo, the Wild were seriously considering trading their No. 13 pick in the draft to the Jets for McGroarty, but when the chance came to nab highly-touted defenceman Zeev Buium, they dealt a future 3rd-round pick to the Flyers to move up to No. 12 and draft Buium.

This doesn't mean, however, that the Wild aren't still intrigued about landing a promising young forward like McGroarty, and may still re-visit this.

Calgary Flames

Now into a rebuild of some degree this summer, the Flames could do worse than landing a big forward with McGroarty's pedigree to help build around. Dixon suggests that sending Nazem Kadri to fill the Jets' need for a 2C would make for a good fit.
