Columbus Blue Jackets Re-Sign Jet Greaves
The Columbus Blue Jackets have re-signed goaltender Jet Greaves to a two-year, $1.625 million contract. The first season of the contract is a two-way deal, and the second year changes to a one-way deal.
With this move, the Blue Jackets and Greaves have avoided arbitration.
Greaves, 23, appeared in a career-high nine games this past season with the Blue Jackets, where he posted a 3-6-0 record, a .908 save percentage, and a 3.49 goals-against average. While he had a losing record, his .908 save percentage displays that he was solid when called upon.
Down in the AHL with the Cleveland Monsters, Greaves had a very good season. In 46 games played for the Monsters on the year, he had a 30-12-4 record, a 2.93 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage. He stepped up his game during the playoffs even further, however, as he posted a .926 save percentage and a 2.17 goals-against average in 13 appearances.
Greaves will now look to earn a spot on the Blue Jackets' NHL roster at the start of the 2024-25 season. When looking at their current goaltending situation, it is certainly possible that he could land the backup job on their roster. We will need to wait and see what happens on that front, but it is clear that the young goaltender has a bright future ahead of him.
