Detroit Red Wings Re-Sign Patrick Kane to One-Year Deal

One of the top free agents from this year's class is off the board, as Patrick Kane has signed a one-year contract, $4 million contract to stay with the Detroit Red Wings. The deal also comes with an extra $2.5 million in bonuses.

According to Elliotte Friedman, the bonuses that Kane can get are:

$1.5 million for 10 games played

$250,000 for 60 games played

$500,000 if the Red Wings make the playoffs

$250,000 for 60 points and Detroit making the playoffs

When looking at these bonuses, it is very easy to assume that Kane has a great shot of at least getting $1.5 million of bonuses. As for the other bonuses, they are certainly possible as well.

Kane, 35, appeared in 50 regular-season games with the Red Wings in 2023-24, posting 20 goals to go along with 47 points and a minus-5 rating. After a shaky 2022-23 season due to injury, Kane showed with the Red Wings that he can still be a star in this league. Now, he has earned this nice one-year deal with incentives because of it.

Kane will now look to lead the Red Wings into the playoffs. Last season the Original Six club came very close to ending their playoff drought, and they certainly have the potential to in 2024-25. It will now be interesting to see what other moves they make in free agency, as they are looking to make some big splashes.
