Florida Panthers Sign Adam Boqvist to One-Year Deal

The Florida Panthers have added to their defensive depth, as they have signed Adam Boqvist to a one-year, two-way contract.

The Panthers signed Boqvist's brother, Jesper Boqvist, earlier this offseason, so this move will now give them the chance to play together as teammates.

While the brother connection is cool, it is likely not the only reason why the Panthers signed Boqvist. Boqvist is a former eighth-overall pick who has shown promise at the NHL level in the past. In addition, he has the potential to be an impactful offensive defenseman, so it makes sense that the Panthers are taking a shot on him.

When looking at the Panthers' current roster, it is clear that Boqvist should compete for a spot on their bottom pairing at training camp. There are spots to compete for on the Panthers' roster right now, as they lost multiple defensemen in free agency.

In 35 games this past season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Boqvist recorded one goal, 10 points, and a minus-8 rating. While it was a down year for him, there is reason to believe he can bounce back. He had 24 points in 46 games with the Blue Jackets just back in 2022-23 and 11 goals and 22 points in 52 games back in 2021-22.
