Former Flyers 2nd-Rounder Wade Allison Leaving North America
Not only was former Philadelphia Flyers second-round pick Wade Allison never able to live up to his billing, he simply wasn't able to hold down an NHL job in the long run. Now, the 26-year-old is heading to Russia, signing with the KHL club Barys Astana.

After being selected with the 52nd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, Allison got his first taste of the NHL in 2020-21, playing just 14 games with the Flyers, and recording seven points. He got into just one contest in Philly the following season, then managed to land a fairly regular job and play 60 games in the City of Brotherly Love in the 2022-23 season. He recorded nine goals and 15 points while handing out 190 hits with his rugged 6'2", 205-pound frame.
But that's the last we've seen of Allison in the NHL. He didn't make the team out of camp last fall and spent the entire 2023-24 season with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms and the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL, recording 22 points in 60 games.
Now, the 2016 draft bust will head to Barys Astana in the KHL on a one-year contract, and ironically, the player he was traded to the Nashville Predators for last season, Denis Gurianov, will apparently be joining Allison in the KHL, with CSKA Moscow.
