Hurricanes Rumors: Carolina May Be Changing Course With Martin Necas

The Carolina Hurricanes might be rethinking their long-standing approach to trading Martin Necas as the offseason progresses.

For months, Necas has been a frequent name in trade discussions due to contract problems and his inability to fit within the Hurricanes' stacked roster.

Necas posted 24 goals and 53 points in 77 games this season and is reportedly looking for a move from Carolina.

However, his recent performance, including four goals and nine points in 11 postseason games, highlights his growing importance to the team and could prompt a change in strategy.

Previously discontent with his role as a third-line winger, Necas expressed a desire to move to center and take on more responsibilities, adding complexity to his situation.

His recent filing for salary arbitration further indicates his pursuit of a role that better fits his career aspirations.

Initially linked to several teams, including the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Los Angeles Kings, Montreal Canadiens, Utah Hockey Club, and Vancouver Canucks, a trade seemed certain.

However, with Jake Guentzel now part of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Hurricanes may find it more feasible to afford Necas' new contract demands and retain a homegrown talent who can contribute significantly to their offensive lineup.

Facing inevitable departures due to salary cap constraints, the Hurricanes might see retaining Necas as a more viable option than pursuing a trade.

His arbitration case adds an unpredictable element, but it also opens the possibility of a longer-term sign-and-trade deal.

Keeping Necas could provide the stability and offensive firepower the team needs, especially as they navigate a challenging cap situation and potential roster changes.
