Hurricanes Rumors: What's Next For Carolina?

The Carolina Hurricanes made a big move earlier this week by placing Evgeny Kuznetsov on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract by mutual agreement, freeing up $3.9 million in cap space.

This brings their total available cap space to over $13.86 million, positioning them to secure new deals for restricted free agents Martin Necas and Seth Jarvis, as noted by TSN.

Necas, who has filed for salary arbitration, has been at the center of trade rumors due to dissatisfaction with his third-line winger role, while both he and Jarvis were instrumental in the Hurricanes' playoff success last season.

Under the leadership of new general manager Eric Tulsky, the Hurricanes are navigating a period of big change.

Long-time players such as Brady Skjei, Brett Pesce, Teuvo Teravainen, and Stefan Noesen have departed, prompting some roster adjustments.

The team has responded by retaining key players Jordan Martinook and Jalen Chatfield and signing forwards William Carrier, Jack Roslovic, Eric Robinson, and Tyson Jost.

Additionally, the defense has been bolstered with the additions of Sean Walker and Shayne Gostisbehere on three-year contracts, ensuring a mix of experienced and fresh talent.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour, who extended his contract in June, remains optimistic about the future despite the tough departures.

He is enthusiastic about the potential of new acquisitions and the growth of young players within the team's up-tempo playing style, as noted by TSN.

With 21 of their 23 active roster players already under contract for the 2024-25 season, the Hurricanes are well-positioned to maintain their competitive edge and aim to extend their playoff streak to a seventh straight season.

The focus now shifts to finalizing the deals for Necas and Jarvis and addressing any remaining roster needs to ensure continued success.
