Jake DeBrusk Speaks On Rocky Ending To Bruins Tenure

Jake DeBrusk recently opened up about his trade requests from the Boston Bruins and how his time with the team eventually came to an end on "The Cam & Strick Podcast."

Drafted by the Bruins in 2015, DeBrusk began his NHL career in 2017 and spent seven seasons with the team. His initial trade request came during the summer of 2021, following a challenging playoff period where he was a healthy scratch.

Feeling uncertain about his role and seeking a fresh start, DeBrusk made another trade request public in November 2021, which created significant media attention. However, he later rescinded this request and chose to stay with the Bruins.

Reflecting on his time in Boston, DeBrusk described the mixed feelings he had about his experience. He noted the passionate and intense nature of the Bruins' fan base and admitted to being a polarizing figure within the team.

The scrutiny he faced, especially during difficult periods, was significant, but he acknowledged that this environment prepared him for playing in other high-pressure hockey markets.

Despite the discomfort of returning to the rink after his trade request became public, DeBrusk reportedly found support from his teammates, who understood his desire for a better fit and rallied around him, making the situation more bearable.

DeBrusk ultimately stayed with the Bruins for three more seasons, achieving success, including a career-high 50 points in the 2022-23 season.

Now signed with the Vancouver Canucks on a seven-year deal, DeBrusk is excited about his new opportunity and looks forward to contributing to the team's success.
