Jets Rumors: Winnipeg Offered BIG Trade to Hurricanes For Martin Necas
The Carolina Hurricanes recently signed forward Martin Necas to a two-year, $13 million extension, taking one of the biggest names off the trade market.
This extension followed a period of intense trade discussions, particularly with the Winnipeg Jets, as reported by NHL insider Frank Seravalli on the DFO Rundown podcast.
The Jets made a substantial offer to acquire Necas, proposing a package that included standout prospect Rutger McGroarty, promising forward Cole Perfetti, and an unspecified draft pick.
This offer showed Winnipeg's strong interest in bolstering their roster with a proven NHL talent like Necas.

The Jets' proposed deal highlighted their willingness to invest heavily in securing Necas.
McGroarty, who recently had an impressive 52-point season at the University of Michigan, and Perfetti, a former 10th overall pick with 19 goals and 38 points in 71 games last season, represented significant value.
Despite the attractiveness of the offer, the Hurricanes ultimately decided against the trade, partly due to Necas's significant control over his future contract situation. Additionally, trade talks with the Buffalo Sabres fell through, as Necas was unwilling to sign an extension with them, further complicating potential deals.

Retaining Necas aligns with the Hurricanes' competitive aspirations, especially after losing another top-six forward, Jake Guentzel, to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Necas, who scored 24 goals and 53 points in 77 games last season, remains a crucial part of Carolina's lineup.
