Max Pacioretty Reunion With Montreal Canadiens Makes Perfect Sense

The Montreal Canadiens are at a point where they have to start moving up in the standings and compete for a playoff spot next season. The Canadiens did next to nothing this offseason to improve and are hoping for health and better performances from the players within.

The Canadiens don't look like a playoff team, especially with all of the teams around them and ahead of them improving. While the free agents still available are slim, a reunion with former captain Max Pacioretty should be in the cards.

Between Alex Barre-Boulet and Michael Pezzetta, the Canadiens could improve their forward group and Pacioretty, though coming off injuries, still produced 23 points in 47 games on a questionable Washington Capitals team.

Pacioretty was traded from the Canadiens to the Vegas Golden Knights when Montreal was on the decline and ready to really rebuild. This trade brought Nick Suzuki to Montreal and Pacioretty was a very skilled scorer for the Golden Knights. He isn't the same scorer he once was when he produced 97 goals and 194 points in 224 games, but he is still able to snipe and add some much needed offense to the lacking Canadiens.

The Canadiens have more than enough cap space to add Pacioretty and there doesn't seem to be a lot of suitors as he is still a free agent. Montreal needs to get into the playoff hunt, and although adding an injury risk in Pacioretty may not seem like best decision, there's not many other options left.
