Minnesota Wild Sign Brock Faber to Massive Extension

The Minnesota Wild have made a massive move, as they have signed star defenseman Brock Faber to an eight-year, $68 million ($8.5 million AAV) contract extension. His new deal will begin during the 2025-26 season.

Faber, 21, is coming off an excellent first full season with the Wild. The Maple Grove, Minnesota native broke out in a big way for the Wild, as he posted eight goals, 47 points, 65 hits, and 150 blocks in 82 games. Due to his outstanding play, he was named to the 2023-24 NHL All-Rookie Team and finished second in the Calder Memorial Trophy race, which is given to the NHL's best rookie. Chicago Blackhawks superstar took home the Calder.

Due to his strong defensive play and offense from the point, Faber emerged as a top-pairing for the Wild this past season and now has earned this massive contract extension because of it. With this move, the Wild will be keeping their best defenseman around for a significant portion of his prime. In addition, it has the potential to age magnificently, as Faber should only get better as he continues to adjust to the sport's most competitive league.

This is a major move for the Wild, and it will now be interesting to see how well Faber performs once his contract extension kicks in during the 2025-26 campaign from here.
