Montreal Canadiens Re-Sign Justin Barron to Multi-Year Deal

The Montreal Canadiens are staying busy, as they have re-signed defenseman Justin Barron to a two-year, $2.3 million contract ($1.15 million AAV).

Barron is the second defenseman who the Canadiens have re-signed on Tuesday, as they also reached a new deal with Arber Xhekaj. Now, with by re-signing Barron, they are keeping another one of their young and promising defenders around.

Barron, 22, appeared in 48 games this past season with the Canadiens, where he had a career-high seven goals to go along with 13 points, 59 blocks, and 61 hits. Overall, it was a pretty solid season for the Halifax, Nova Scotia native, and he will look to continue to build on it during the 2024-25 season with this new deal from here.

When looking at the Canadiens' current depth chart, Barron has a good chance of being more of a regular in their lineup next season. The 2020 first-round pick has the tools to blossom into a potential top-four defenseman, but he still has some work to do before getting to that point.

Overall, this is a good move for both the Canadiens and Barron. Barron has gotten a raise and some job security with it being a multi-year contract, while the Canadiens did not need to spend too much. It will be fun to see what kind of season he has in 2024-25 from here.
