Montreal Canadiens Sign Kaiden Guhle to Big Extension

The Montreal Canadiens have made a huge move, as they have signed defenseman Kaiden Guhle to a six-year, $33.3 million ($5.55 million AAV) contract extension. The deal will kick in during the 2025-26 season.

This is just the latest move that the Canadiens have made regarding their blueline, as they also re-signed young defensemen Arber Xhekaj and Justin Barron on Tuesday (July 30). Now, Guhle has been extended, and it is easily the biggest move that the Habs have made.

Guhle, 22, was selected by the Canadiens with the 16th overall pick of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, the Sherwood Park, Alberta native has become a key part of the Canadiens' blue line. As a result, the Canadiens have worked quickly and gotten him signed to his big extension because of it.

Guhle appeared in 70 games this past season for the Canadiens, where he had six goals to go along with 22 points and 116 hits. This was after he posted four goals, 18 points, and 84 hits in 44 games for the Canadiens in 2022-23 as a rookie.

Guhle has already shown good promise at the NHL level, and he has plenty of time to improve from here. If he continues to trend in the right direction with his development, this contract could be a very good one for the Canadiens.
