New Jersey Devils to Sign Brenden Dillon

According to NHL insider Kevin Weekes, the New Jersey Devils will sign defenseman Brenden Dillon once free agency begins.

This news comes after word spread that the Devils will also be adding defenseman Brett Pesce to their lineup. Clearly, the Devils are looking to strengthen their blueline, and they are doing just that by bringing in Dillon as well.

Dillon was viewed as one of the top defenders in this year's free agency class, and the Devils are now the lucky club that will land him. He should be a massive addition to their top four, as he is a hard-nosed shutdown defenseman who also can chip in a little bit of offense to go along with it.

Dillon, 33, appeared in 77 regular-season games this past campaign with the Winnipeg Jets, where he had eight goals to go along with 20 points and a plus-20 rating. He was also incredibly impactful when it came to his physical play, as he had 241 hits on the year.

It will now be interesting to see what kind of deal Dillon gets from the Devils. Given how well he played this past season, it should be a pretty good one for the New Westminster, British Columbia native.
