New York Islanders Re-Sign Simon Holmstrom

The New York Islanders have made a roster move, as they have re-signed forward Simon Holmstrom to a one-year, $850,000 contract.

Holmstrom was sent a one-year, two-way contract at $874,000 by the Islanders, but he has instead elected to sign this other deal with the club. Now, he will look to continue to develop in the right direction.

Holmstrom, 23, is coming off a breakout season with the Islanders. The 2019 first-round pick proved that he belongs at the NHL level, as he posted new career highs with 15 goals, 10 assists, and 25 points in 75 games. With numbers like these, he emerged as a true top-nine forward, and he will now look to continue to improve his offense from here.

Besides improving his offense last season, Holmstrom also became a key part of the Islanders' penalty kill. The speedy winger has become a responsible defensive forward, and he should only continue to improve in this area as he continues to adjust to the sport's most competitive league.

Overall, given the season that Holmstrom put together during the 2023-24 campaign, it is fair to believe that the Islanders are very happy to have gotten him signed to such an affordable deal. We will now need to wait and see what kind of season he can put together for the Metropolitan Division club from here.
