NHL Rumors: Could Canadiens Make Offer Sheet To Seth Jarvis?

Could the Montreal Canadiens be plotting a revenge play by targeting Carolina Hurricanes' forward Seth Jarvis with an offer sheet?

This intriguing idea was brought up recently by Sportsnet's Emily Sadler, especially considering the contentious history between these two teams.

In 2021, the Hurricanes stirred the pot by issuing a $6.1-million offer sheet to Montreal's Jesperi Kotkaniemi, a move widely seen as retaliation for the Canadiens' failed attempt to acquire Sebastian Aho via an offer sheet two years prior.

The potential for Montreal to strike back by targeting Jarvis, a rising star with 33 goals and 67 points in his last season, adds an intriguing layer to the offseason drama.

However, the likelihood of such a move under the current Canadiens' management seems low.

The previous drama between the two teams was largely driven by then-GM Marc Bergevin, known for his bold moves. With him no longer at the helm, the Canadiens' current leadership may prefer to avoid reigniting that feud.

Additionally, offer sheets are rare and often seen as aggressive moves that can strain relationships between teams.

While the Canadiens have the cap space and the motive, the practical considerations and the current management's approach make pursuing Jarvis through an offer sheet an unlikely scenario.

Nonetheless, the idea of a "revenge play" keeps the speculation alive and adds a layer of excitement to the offseason narrative.

Over his three-year career, the 22-year-old has put up 64 goals and 82 assists for 146 total points across 231 games played.

He was the 13th overall selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Hurricanes.
