NHL Trade Rumors: 2 Minnesota Wild Trade Candidates

The Minnesota Wild have been quiet this offseason as general manager Bill Guerin doesn't have a ton of cap space to work with this summer. The team is still paying over $14 million in dead cap space thanks to buying out Zach Parise and Ryan Suter.

While Guerin recently extended Brock Faber to a long-term lucrative contract, the Wild could look at the trade route to upgrade their roster ahead of training camp in September. Here's two trade candidates who could be in play for Guerin this offseason:

Filip Gustavsson

Marc-Andre Fleury is returning for another season and the Wild have Jesper Wallstedt who is ready for NHL minutes. While Fleury's entering his final season, Guerin could look to move Gustavsson for an impact forward. It would be a bit of a risk, no doubt, as Wallstedt only has three NHL appearances under his belt. Gustavsson has two seasons left at $3.75 million AAV and doesn't have trade protection until the 2025-26 season when he gains a five-team modified no-trade clause.

Marcus Johansson

Depending on how the Wild start the season, Johansson, a pending unrestricted free agent could be in play. The Wild will be in contention for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, however if they do struggle out the gates, Guerin will look to sell off some of his rentals, including Johansson. The veteran winger is owed $2 million AAV in 2024-25 and holds a full no-trade clause. Last season the 33-year-old recorded 11 goals and 30 points in 78 games. Keep an eye on the Washington Capitals who have a long history with Johansson and would likely be a place he'd approve a trade to.
