NHL Trade Rumors: 3 Anaheim Ducks Trade Candidates
The Anaheim Ducks will continue rebuilding heading into the 2024-25 season. General manager Pat Verbeek has been very active on the trade market ensuring his team is heading in the right direction and look for the former pesky winger to navigate a couple of moves before training camp.
The Ducks are nowhere close to contending and need to continue to find solid young talent at every position. Verbeek has a five-year plan and it's expected the Ducks are open to more changes as the summer months continue. Here's three Ducks' trade candidates heading into next season:
Frank Vatrano
Vatrano's had his name cycled through the trade market for a couple of seasons now. He's a versatile forward who can play up and down the lineup and he's turning into a consistent offensive threat. Vatrano finished last season leading the Ducks with 37 goals and 60 points. He's yet to sign a long-term contract and the 30-year-old veteran has just one season left on his contract at $3.65 million. It sounds like Verbeek would rather keep him as an option to trade than secure Vatrano for a few more seasons in Anaheim. At least at this point.
John Gibson
Gibson is no stranger to the trade buzz and this summer, was reportedly very close to getting moved to the Detroit Red Wings. Steve Yzerman and Verbeek are very close and word is the deal fell through at the 11th hour and the Wings decided to pivot to Cam Talbot and Jack Campbell. At this point, with all the goalie movement across the NHL this offseason, it may take an injury to a team's starter before there's serious interest in Gibson and the final three seasons of his contract, at $6.4 million AAV.
Brock McGinn
McGinn is likely heading for the rental market as he's a depth forward who can help kill penalties and move up the lineup in a pinch. McGinn has one season left on his contract at $2.75 million against the cap and last season recorded three points, in 24 games. The Ducks will likely have to retain some salary in order to receive a mid-round pick in any McGinn deal.
