Oilers Rumors: Could 2 Edmonton Players Be Offer Sheet Targets?

According to Kurt Leavins of the Edmonton Journal, no offer sheets are expected for Oilers' restricted free agents Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway, despite recent speculation.

Leavins highlights that offer sheets are a rarely used tactic in the NHL, with only ten signed in the salary cap era.

These typically involve players seeking a change of scenery, which doesn’t seem to be the case for Broberg and Holloway.

Both players played key roles for the Oilers during their postseason run, including being in the regular rotation for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final.

Their performances have earned them considerable praise, and they are viewed as integral parts of Edmonton's future.

Last season, the 22-year-old Holloway scored six goals and three assists for nine total points across 38 games played.

The 23-year-old old Broberg appeared in just 12 NHL games in the regular season, recording no goals, two assists, a -3 plus/minus rating, 10 blocked shots and four hits across 12 games played.

The Oilers are likely to offer them two-year deals in the range of $1.0 million to $1.2 million annually, making it improbable for rival clubs to entice them with offer sheets, Leavins said.

Leavins emphasizes that Holloway and Broberg are unlikely to leave a team poised for another deep playoff run.

Holloway, who was the the Oilers' first-round pick (14th overall) in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, has recorded a nine goals and nine assists for 18 total points across 89 games played over his two-year career.

Broberg was the Oilers' 2019 first-round draft pick (8th overall), and has put up two goals, 13 total points, a -5 plus/minus rating, 55 blocked shots, and 42 hits across 81 games played over his three NHL seasons.
