Reports: Jonathan Marchessault's Next Destination "Just About Done"

With the shocking report overnight that the Vegas Golden Knights 2023 Conn Smythe Trophy winner Jonathan Marchessault will be hitting the open market today, we're getting word Monday morning that there's "lots of noise" surrounding Marchessault and the New Jersey Devils.

According to insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, the Devils are a prime suitor for Marchessault.

Mike Grinnell has gone one step further, making it sound like a done deal:

The Devils came into the offseason needing to add a pair of middle-six wingers to replace Tyler Toffoli and Alexander Holtz, but in adding Marchessault, they'd even be overshooting their goals.

The 33-year-old Marchessault has been with the Golden Knights since their inception in 2017, and led them to the Stanley Cup in 2023. But Vegas is under an extreme cap crunch this summer, and it doesn't appear that they'll have the money to sign the face of their franchise to the long-term deal he has earned.

The Original Misfit had 13 goals and 25 points and 22 games during the Knights Stanley Cup run in 2023, then upped the ante with a career-high 42 goals this past season. He is also the franchise's all-time leader in goals, assists, points, and games played.
