San Jose Sharks Sign Tyler Toffoli
The San Jose Sharks have made a big move, signing veteran forward Tyler Toffoli to a four-year, $24 million contract.
Toffoli, 32, was one of the best free-agent forwards, and several contenders were linked to him. However, Toffoli has surprised many by inking this nice deal with a rebuilding Sharks club.
Toffoli will now be a key veteran forward for the Sharks as they continue their rebuild. He will also give star rookie Macklin Celebrini is an impactful forward to work with. This is certainly needed, as Celebrini will benefit by having a solid scorer like Toffoli on his line.
Toffoli appeared in 79 games this past season split between the New Jersey Devils and Winnipeg Jets, where he had 33 goals to go along with 55 points and a minus-6 rating. Overall, it was another strong year from the veteran.
Some clubs who were in the mix for Toffoli include the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers. However, in the end, the Sharks have won the sweepstakes and it will be very interesting to see how he performs for the club from here.
