Sharks Sign Henry Thrun To 2-Year Contract Extension

The San Jose Sharks have secured defenseman Henry Thrun for the next two years with a $2 million contract, providing him with an average annual value (AAV) of $1 million.

General Manager Mike Grier expressed confidence in Thrun's development and contributions since joining the Sharks, highlighting his reliability on defense and potential for further growth.

With this signing, the Sharks now turn their attention to securing a new deal for their remaining restricted free agent, forward Thomas Bordeleau.

Thrun made a notable impact in his first full professional season, playing 51 games and recording 11 points while averaging 20 minutes of ice time per game.

Recognized as the Sharks' Rookie of the Year, Thrun demonstrated his defensive capabilities and took on significant responsibilities, particularly in the latter part of the season.

Throughout his NHL career, he has accumulated 14 points in 59 games.

Originally drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2019 NHL Draft (fourth round, 101st overall), Thrun was acquired by San Jose in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick.

His rookie season saw him rank among the top NHL rookie defensemen, particularly in time on ice and penalty kill minutes.

With his collegiate success at Harvard University and contributions to Team USA at various international levels, Thrun’s solid performance with the Sharks has solidified his role in the team's defense corps.
