TRADE: Senators, Oilers Complete 3-Player Deal

The Ottawa Senators and Edmonton Oilers have completed a three-player swap that sees recent first-round pick Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson head to Ottawa in exchange for Roby Jarventie and a 4th-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The only one of these players to have seen any action at the NHL level to this point in their young careers is Jarventie, who was the Sens' 2nd-round pick in the 2020 Draft (33rd overall). He played seven games this past season for Ottawa, registering one point. At Belleville in the AHL, he recorded 20 points in 22 games.

The power forward seems to be the closest to being fully NHL-ready of any of the three players in this deal. With one year left on his ELC, the Oilers will have to see what he can do over the next 12 months.

Bourgault is a first-rounder that the Oilers simply missed on after they selected him with the #22 overall pick in the 2021 Entry Draft. He's spent the past two seasons with the Bakersfield Condors in the AHL, notching 54 points in 117 games. The centerman showed great promise in his last year in junior, in 2021-22, scoring 36 goals with 75 points in 43 games for the Shawinigan Cataractes, helping lead them to the QMJHL title. But he struggled to live up to his billing once he hit the pros.

Chiasson is another prospect who struggled in the Oilers organization. He was a 2021 4th-round selection, then spent most of his first pro season in the ECHL with the Fort Wayne Comets, recording just 20 points in 68 games.
