Heinola, 23, was selected by the Jets with the 20th overall pick of the 2019 NHL Entry Draft. The 6-foot defenseman has yet to become a full-time defenseman at the NHL level, but he is a candidate to make their opening night next season when looking at their current blueline.
Heinola spent the entirety of this past season down in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Manitoba Moose. Overall, it was another solid offensive season for him, as he recorded 10 goals to go along wth 27 points in 41 games. Now, his goal next season will be to translate some of that offense to the NHL level if given the chance to.
Heinola last played in the NHL with the Jets during the 2022-23, where he posted one assist in 10 games. In 35 total career NHL games with the Jets, he has one goal to go along with 11 points, 18 penalty minutes, and a minus-6 rating.
We will need to wait and see how much of a step forward Heinola makes with his development during this latest contract from here.
