2 Colorado Avalanche Who Will Regress In 2024-25
The Colorado Avalanche will once again be a very competitive team as their roster did get a bit better and there is a good deal of elite talent. That being said, there will be some players in different spots or just those not able to repeat great seasons. There are two in particular that we will get into.
Jonathan Drouin
Even with Artturi Lehkonen healthy to start the season, Jonathan Drouin played his best on the top line alongside Nathan MacKinnon. I see no reason for the Avalanche to change this to start the season unless there is a good deal of evidence that it isn't working anymore. In any case, Drouin did have a career year after years of struggling and injuries. Even though he could put up another strong season which I believe he can, it might fall slightly back of 19 goals and 56 points. For him to reach 50 points again would be a major win for Colorado.
Ross Colton
Ross Colton is a great third line centerman to have and he had a strong season for the Avalanche in 2023-24. He set a career high with 40 points last season, but that was with his contention for a second line center role. With Ryan Johansen out and Casey Mittelstadt in, there is no competition. Mittelstadt will play on the second line, limiting Colton's time with better players and probably keeping him in the 30-40 point range, just under where he was last season.
