3 Chicago Blackhawks Who Will Regress In 2024-25
The Chicago Blackhawks made a lot of great moves this offseason and the team is set to be much more competitive, regardless of if they make the playoffs yet or not. While new faces were brought in, some may not be up to the level they once were while others could get pushed down and have worse seasons. These are three players on the Blackhawks expected to regress in 2024-25.
Nick Foligno
Nick Foligno was a key component on the Blackhawks last season, his first with the team. He played a big leadership role that should continue, but he also got a lot of playing time because of a lack of ready talent or injuries. He put up 17 goals and 37 points in 74 games, but played nearly 18 minutes per game. That is going to vastly change this season with a lot more younger and better players on the roster. Foligno projects to play on the fourth line, so he will not come close to his totals unless something miraculous happens in the Blackhawks' bottom-6.
T.J. Brodie
T.J. Brodie was a solid pickup by the Blackhawks on the back-end, but instead of playing top-4 minutes like he did in Toronto, he will likely be dropped to the third pairing. He didn't have a great season in 2023-24, but still produced 26 points and played almost 22 minutes per game, the most since the 2017-18 season when he was 27 and in his prime. With less playing time, Brodie will have less of an impact, but I believe it will be the right spot for him at 34 years old.
Pat Maroon
Pat Maroon didn't have much of an impact for the Boston Bruins after being picked up last season at the trade deadline. He played two regular season games and 13 games in the playoffs, assisting on two goals. For a player that is already one of the slowest in the league, age isn't on his side as he's now 36 years old. He scored four goals and 16 points last season in 51 games. I expect him to play fewer games and have less of an impact. There are others pushing for spots in the lineup and the league is fast.
