3 Free-Agent Goaltenders Looking for Contracts for 2024-25

The 2024 NHL offseason is winding down as September is fast approaching and before we know it September will be here and training camps will be opening. The free-agent market was crazy busy the first couple of days in July and now has quieted down, however that doesn't mean there's still not some talent free-agents looking for teams for next season.

This includes the goaltending market as there's three netminders in search of a NHL contract for next season:

Martin Jones

Jones saved the Leafs season for a solid six weeks last season and ended the year posting a 11-8-1 record. Jones would likely be happy with a one-year, league minimum contract, however to this point, it's been awfully quiet on his next destination. The San Jose Sharks make some sense, as do the Vancouver Canucks. Jones is likely headed for a third-goalie slot, as almost every team has a backup netminder in place already.

Antti Raanta

Raanta, like Jones, only has a couple seasons left and he'd like to catch on to compete for an NHL job next season. Raanta spent last season between the Carolina Hurricanes and Chicago Wolves of the AHL. With the 'Canes, he went 12-7-2, posting a 2.99 GAA. With the Wolves Raanta posted a 2-2-4 record, and struggled to a .872 save percentage. He'd be a great option for the Ottawa Senators to compete for their backup role. If the NHL doesn't come calling, expect to see Raanta catch on overseas.

Kevin Lankinen

Lankinen spent the past two seasons with the Nashville Predators, going a combined 20-14-1 over that span. Lankinen is still only 29 years old and would like to think he can still play at the highest level, however to this point, no contracts have been announced. Lankinen's .908 save percentage was among the leaders in regards to backup goalies, however the Preds felt they could upgrade, bringing in Scott Wedgewood on a free-agent deal. Nashville also has prospect Yaroslav Askarov waiting in the wings or as prime trade bait, so that could certainly be part of the equation on why Lankinen isn't heading back to Smashville.
