3 Nashville Predators Who Will Regress In 2024-25

The Nashville Predators made headlines on the first day of free agency by adding major players and getting a whole lot better. That should be the case, but individually, it should be tough for some aging veterans to play at the level they did last season. Here's a look at three Predators who will regress in 2024-25.

Gustav Nyquist

Gustav Nyquist experienced a sort of career resurgence on the top line in Nashville last season with Ryan O'Reilly and Filip Forsberg. There is no reason to think that those three won't play together all season again, but Nyquist will be bumped off the top power play where he produced last season. With the additions of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, Nyquist will only be able to be effective at 5-on-5 and his offense will drop a bit, even if he plays just as well.

Steven Stamkos

Stamkos has been a point-per-game player in seven of his last eight seasons, but I can see that dipping slightly below in his first season with the Predators. While he is 34 years old, it may be more due to settling in and gaining some chemistry. He has played with some very good players in Tampa Bay for a long time without much change. With another 40-goal scorer in Marchessault on his line and a sniper in Forsberg on the power play, there may be too many cooks in the kitchen to see Stamkos hit 40 goals again as well.

Luke Schenn

Luke Schenn fell off last season and more this season we should see him be a healthy scratch. With Spencer Stastney in the mix, Schenn should be sitting for Dante Fabbro in the lineup more often than not. Schenn is slower and unfortunately for Nashville, still has two years left on his deal. The 34-year-old isn't getting any younger and didn't have a great goals for % last season playing against 3rd and 4th lines.
