3 Players Entering Final Season With Toronto Maple Leafs

There may be some big changes for the Toronto Maple Leafs after this season, especially if the playoffs go the way they have for the past number of years. Something has to give, and next offseason would be the time to make the hard decisions. That being said, these are three players who are entering their final season as Maple Leafs.

Mitch Marner

Mitch Marner is who I was mainly referring to above as he is entering the final year of his deal and is a UFA. John Tavares is right with him as he's also entering the final year of his deal, but the former captain will take less to win and stay as he's made his money. Marner on the other hand has never taken a pay cut, evident by his $10.9 million AAV contract. It's likely he's looking for more on a long-term deal and the Maple Leafs have already committed to Auston Matthews and William Nylander long-term. We'll see how the season goes, but I don't expect any contract or movement before the end of the season.

Matt Murray

The Maple leafs brought back Matt Murray on a cheap one-year deal after he was only able to play three games in the AHL and none in the NHL all of last season. He is healthy, but is the third-string goalie in Toronto. With the risk of injury to Joseph Woll, Murray could play a more important role this season, but Toronto also has Dennis Hildeby well on his way to being an option in net. This is a redemption season for Murray, but the last one with the Maple Leafs.

Nic Robertson

The Maple Leafs haven't handled Nic Robertson great, but injuries at the wrong time has also played a key role in where he is in his career. It seems as though he isn't going to be on the Maple Leafs for much longer, even if he does get a short contract and plays on the team this season. I assume that he would be used as a trade chip to send him somewhere he can have a fresh start at either the trade deadline or earlier next offseason.
