3 Players Entering Final Season With Minnesota Wild

The Minnesota Wild should be good very soon, but might be on the edge of the playoffs for one more season. With a lot of money opening up for them after this season, there will be changes to improve the roster and start to actually compete. Here's a look at who won't be back because of the anticipated changes.

Marc-Andre Fleury

Everyone thought that Marc-Andre Fleury was done after last season, but he signed for one more year to give Jesper Wallstedt just a little more time to develop. But after this coming season, he will be ready and Fleury will be 40 in November. This should now be the victory lap for Fleury as the tandem going forward is going to be Filip Gustavsson and Wallstedt.

Jon Merrill

As part of the defensive overhaul with a little more money, Jon Merrill is likely going to be one of the players parted with to make room. he is heading into the final year of his deal, isn't going to play a full season in 2024-25 because of the other talent on the back-end, and there will easily be other options to replace him.

Marcus Johansson

While I'm on the fence about whether Marcus Johansson will leave after the season because he's about to be 34 years old and going to be a UFA, the Wild are going to have a lot of money to spend on upgrading after the pair of buyouts finally drop from the millions to very little. The forward group needs an upgrade, especially the top-6. This is where a chunk of the money will go in order to show Kirill Kaprizov the team is set on winning and there's not much room in the bottom-6 for Johansson to slide to if he stays.
