3 Vegas Golden Knights Who Will Regress In 2024-25

The Vegas Golden Knights lost some key players this offseason, but will also now have full seasons with some new talent. It is going to be an interesting year for this team, but a few of the veterans are likely going to regress. These are three who are expected to do so.

William Karlsson

As a center on the Golden Knights, William Karlsson is going to be playing behind Jack Eichel and Tomas Hertl on the third line. This doesn't bode well for repeating a 30 goal, 60 point campaign in 70 games, especially since his linemates are now expected to be Brendan Brisson and Alex Holtz. That was Karlsson's best season since his career year in 2017-18. With a number of factors that will hold back his production, he will regress.

Alex Pietrangelo

Alex Pietrangelo is also not getting any younger. He's going to turn 35 during next season and there's a newer face in town that will take some of his playing time at key times, Noah Hanifin. In the last six seasons Pietrangelo played over 60 games, he has scored over 10 goals. Last season he put up only four goals and recorded 33 points in 64 games after 11 goals and 54 points in 73 games the season prior. It's not a stretch at all to see Pietrangelo continue to decline as he has already started to.

Mark Stone

The thinking as to why Mark Stone will start to regress is all of his past injuries starting to catch up with him. Even if they don't, it's not that easy to produce at a 0.95 points-per-game pace as he is now a couple years into his 30s. On top of that, Stone now has a young and relatively unproven Pavel Dorofeyev as a linemate, which isn't expected to help offense. I don't think Stone's production dips a ton, but I expect a little at least after all that has happened.
