Oilers Make Their Decision on Broberg & Holloway Offer Sheets

The Edmonton Oilers have made a fascinating decision after a week of machinations, deciding not to match the offer sheets for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway. Both players now become St. Louis Blues.

Broberg now has a two year deal at 4.6M AAV and Holloway has a two year contract at $2.29M. In both cases, massively larger than the offers the RFAs were given by the Oilers.

Broberg was reportedly offered an AAV of $1.1M, while Holloway was offered a $1.05 AAV.

Darren Ferris, Broberg's agent, said there were also multiple other teams prepared to make his client an offer sheet. The 23-year-old d-man, who was the 8th overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft, was a solid contributor in the Stanley Cup Finals for the Oilers once he finally made his way into the lineup, and looked like he'd earned himself a regular role on the blueline for next season. He'll now do that in St. Louis.

As for Edmonton, they receive a second-round pick as compensation for Broberg and a third-round pick for Holloway. And in a late addition as a "separate" transaction, they also pick up an extra 3rd rounder and a prospect from the Blues, in the rights to defenseman Paul Fischer.

They also now have some cap flexibility for the coming season to make veteran additions as they go for another run at the Cup. They also dealt Cody Ceci this week and his $3.25M cap hit.
