Canucks Rumors: Vancouver Linked To 3 Goalies In Free Agent Market

The Vancouver Canucks are exploring the free-agent goaltending market as concerns grow over Thatcher Demko's availability for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Demko's recovery from a knee injury, sustained during last season's playoffs, is progressing slower than anticipated, casting doubt on his readiness for the start of the regular season.

In response, the Canucks have been closely linked to three veteran goaltenders: Kevin Lankinen, Martin Jones, and Antti Raanta, as they seek to add depth and experience to their crease.

Among these options, Kevin Lankinen has emerged as the Canucks' primary target. The 29-year-old Finnish netminder posted a solid .908 save percentage as a backup with the Nashville Predators last season and has a prior connection with Canucks' goalie coach Marko Torenius.

However, securing Lankinen could be challenging due to Vancouver's limited cap space, as he is likely seeking a contract above the league minimum. This financial hurdle may force the Canucks to consider their alternatives more seriously.

Martin Jones and Antti Raanta remain viable options for Vancouver, both bringing substantial NHL experience that could provide the stability needed should Demko not be ready to start the season.

Jones recorded a .902 SV%, 2.87 GAA, two shutouts, and an 11-8-1 record across 22 games played with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season.

The 35-year-old Raanta put up an ugly .872 SV%, 2.99 GAA, with one shutout and a 12-7-2 record over 24 games played with the Carolina Hurricanes last season.
