Washington Capitals Bring Back Jakub Vrana on PTO

The Washington Capitals will have an old friend attend their training camp, as they have signed forward Jakub Vrana to a professional tryout (PTO) contract.

Vrana, 28, was drafted by the Capitals with the 13th overall pick of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. From there, he would play the first five seasons of his NHL career with the Capitals, where he posted 76 goals and 157 points in 284 games. His time with the Capitals ended when he was traded to the Detroit Red Wings along with a 2021 first-round pick, a 2022 second-round pick, and Richard Panik in exchange for Anthony Mantha.

After a brief stint with the Red Wings, Vrana spent each of the last two season with the St. Louis Blues organization. During this past season with the Central Division club, he had two goals to go along with six points in 21 games. Due to his offensive struggles, Vrana spent the majority of the year in the AHL with the Springfield Thunderbirds, where he had 16 goals to go along with 36 points in 42 games.

Vrana will now look to get things back on track with the club where he had his most success. It will be very interesting to see if he can earn a contract with the Capitals with a strong training camp from here.
