Colorado Avalanche Sign Oliver Kylington to One-Year Deal

The Colorado Avalanche have scooped one of the top remaining free agents, as they have signed Oliver Kylington to a one-year, $1.05 million contract.

Kylington, 27, was arguably the best defenseman still without a contract at this juncture of the summer, but now he has finally found his new home with the Avalanche. He will now look to earn a spot on the Avalanche's blueline at training camp.

Seeing the Avalanche bring in Kylington is understandable. When looking at their defensive group, it is apparent that the left side of their defense could have used a boost. Now, they have gotten just that by signing Kylington.

Kylington will compete with fellow Avalanche newcomers Calvin de Haan and Erik Brannstrom for a spot in their top-six defensive group. He also should make a real case for himself to see some special-team unit time.

Kylington appeared in 33 games this past season with the Calgary Flames, where he posted three goals, eight points, 24 hits, and a minus-6 rating. This was after Kylington missed the entirety of the Flames' 2022-23 season to focus on his mental health. In 2021-22 with Calgary, he had nine goals, 22 assists, and a plus-34 rating in 73 games.

It will be very interesting to see how much of an impact Kylington will make for the Avalanche from here. On paper, this looks like a potential low-risk, high-reward kind of signing for the Avs.
