Flyers Terminate Contract of Ryan Johansen for "Material Breach"

He was acquired at the trade deadline last season from the Colorado Avalanche, but he showed up with a hip injury that kept him off the ice and he was never able to suit up for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Now, Ryan Johansen and his $8 million owing for this season ($4 million of that owed by Philly) have been placed on unconditional waivers by the Flyers for the purpose of terminating his contract due to what the team calls "a material breach".

Johansen was going into the final season of an 8-year, $64 million deal, but will have to eat the final year of that unless he decides to file a grievance, which according to a report, he is likely to do.

He did play 63 games for the Avs before the trade, posting 13 goals and 23 points in 13:39 of ice time per game.
