SIGNED: Kraken & Matty Beniers Agree To Huge Extension

The NHL's top rookie from 2023 is a huge part of the Seattle Kraken's future, and fans in the Northwest had been a little nervous this summer as to the lack of information about a new contract for restricted free agent Matty Beniers.

Today, everyone is breathing a big sigh of relief as the Kraken and Beniers have agreed to a seven-year, $7.14 million AAV extension.

After being the second overall selection in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, Beniers took home the Calder Trophy in 2022-23, after compiling a superb freshman season of 24 goals and 33 assists for 57 points in 80 games, along with a plus/minus rating of +14. He averaged just over 17 minutes per night.

His production tailed off this past season, with just 15 goals and 22 assists for 37 points in 77 games, but his time on ice did increase to just a couple of ticks under 18 minutes a game.

Nevertheless, Beniers is expected to be a big part of what the Kraken do going forward, as this extension suggests.

Seattle kicked off the summer free agency period with a couple of huge signings, shocking the hockey world with seven-year deals for both Brandon Montour and Chandler Stephenson.  They can conclude their offseason work with a big signing to retain one of their own.
