Milan Lucic Looking to Continue Career; Needs Gary Bettman's Approval First

Milan Lucic, a seasoned NHL veteran with over 1,100 career games and a Stanley Cup championship to his name, is looking to continue his playing career despite a turbulent past year.

In November 2023, Lucic was arrested following an alleged domestic incident, leading to his entry into the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and an indefinite leave of absence from the Boston Bruins.

Although the charges were dropped in February 2024 after his wife invoked marital privilege and declined to testify, Lucic's return to the NHL remains uncertain, as he awaits clearance from NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman and approval to exit the Player Assistance Program.

Throughout the summer of 2024, Lucic has been training rigorously in New Jersey, staying in shape and preparing for a potential return to the league, according to insider Frank Seravalli.

At 36 years old, Lucic may no longer be the offensive force he once was, but his physicality, experience, and leadership qualities could potentially make him an asset in a bottom-six role.

With his contract with the Bruins having expired on June 30, 2024, Lucic is now an unrestricted free agent, hoping to secure a new opportunity to continue his career.

However, his path back to the NHL is complicated, as his eligibility to play hinges on the league's decision, and any potential return would likely require Lucic to accept a professional tryout or a low-salary contract to prove he can still contribute at the NHL level.
